Before the release of modern magnetic stirrers, researchers were tasked with the dull task of manually stirring ingredients. This method not only took hours of monotonous movements, but also increased the margin of error. The evolution of CAT Scientific magnetic stirrers eliminate both time and error by offering digital control over this essential process.
Ingredients are precisely mixed via a rotating magnetic found within the base of the device. This internal rotation causes the coated magnet, also referred to as a flea, to spin within the container. Mixing speed and duration are all controlled via the control panel dial or keypad while performance data is clearly displayed on the easy-to-read LED display.
The speed at which the magnets spin greatly vary based upon the device model. For example, devices can spin anywhere from 50 to 1,600 RPM. This obviously saves researchers time as they may optimize mixing speeds based upon their processing needs. To further reduce experiment duration, all devices slowly increase spinning speeds. This eliminates splashing and corrosion of the device.

The moment the device is activated, all programming steps are designed to save you time. Establishing operating parameters is streamlined via an intuitive control panel. Elements, such as temperature, spin speed and duration, are selected through either a control dial or keypad (based upon the magnetic stirrer device).
All parameters can be archived for future use via the RS 232 Interface. Once specific experiment details are saved, users may skip manually inputting parameters. Rather, these operation instructions are simply selected and activated. This reduces setup time while satisfying rigid GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) standards.
Experiments requiring heat are also streamlined due to the CAT Scientific hotplate magnetic stirrer devices. These units offer precise temperature control and monitoring via the optional PT100 Probe. Maximum temperatures range from 330ºC to 500ºC, depending on model. Temperatures are gradually increased to prevent overshooting the selected range while the monitoring elements automatically shutdown the device should the temperature deviate from the operating parameters.
Upon the completion of an experiment, the device is easily cleaned. Simply rinse the container and coated magnet with a disinfectant. Allow these pieces to dry and set them aside for the next experiment.
